Howard Keith Pretty Weasel

Howard Keith Pretty Weasel went Home to be with the Lord on March 17, 2024.  He was a member of the Big Lodge Clan and a child of the Ties the Bundle Clan.

Howard was born September 4, 1958, to the late Owen Harold Pretty Weasel, Jr and the late Kathryn (Katie) Froze Pretty Weasel. Howard was born into a large family with an even larger extended family (first cousins - adopted).

He played softball (his favorite sport) football, hockey, volleyball (team champs at church camp), bowling, and Aggravation (where Dad aggravated everybody). He enjoyed watching football and his favorite team was the Chicago Bears. He also enjoyed watching his favorite baseball team the Cincinnati Reds.

Howard completed high school at Hardin and made many friends. Some of his closest friends include Cole Kirschenmann, Reece Fulenwider, Kenny Rogers, James Bell Rock, Jr. and Russel Maier.  He was also involved in a choir class because he loved to sing.  Those who heard his voice were surprised and praised his ability to sing.

Howard was not afraid to work or travel for work. He was very resilient. At family gatherings, he became the center of attention with his stories and his play at English and Crow words. Howard constantly made everyone laugh. He also cooked at many of these gatherings, as he was a very good cook and loved to brag about it.

The last few years, with his failing health, he stayed at Yellowstone River Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  He had his favorite healthcare workers some of whom are Heather Hover, Terri Schlicht, Clarissa Skyberg, Sherri Bird, Leslie Champagne, Janine Grant, and Taylor Nelson.  The family is very grateful to the staff workers for their excellent care and the kindness shown to Howard. We also want to thank all those who provided care and compassion to Howard, while a patient at St. Vincent’s Hospital.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents Owen and Katie; his brothers Freddie and Eddie Pretty Weasel; nephews Henry “Hank” Blacksmith and Nathan “Nate Dogg” Pretty Weasel, niece Stephanie Kaye “Shaw” Pretty Weasel, adopted brother Leland Stewart, and many other relatives, aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends. There is a happy reunion in Heaven with mom and dad, and all those who made Heaven their home.

He is survived by his son Keith Bo “Kebo” Pretty Weasel (Taina Youngrunningcrane), daughter Francine Lee Pretty Weasel; sons Jason Kyle (Winona), Jeremy Fred (Alberta), Owen Matthew (Kassi) Pretty Weasel, and Dillard Birdinground; siblings Stephanie (Joe Christie), Brenda, Harold, Jewell (Hugh Blacksmith), Darrell, Kathryn “Kathy”, William, George Pretty Weasel, Billie Kaye(Brad) Black Eagle, Veronica (Nathan Enick, Sr.) and Lorianne Blacksmith; adopted brothers Tilton Old Bull, Hugo Whiteclay, Frank Whiteclay, Chris Dillon, Tim Anderson, Curtis Badbear, and Clyde Pretty Paint; adopted sisters Iva Bull Shows, Dee Hogue, Linda Pretty Weasel, Charlotte Bad Bear, Jan LaForge, Beldean (Alex) Plain Feather, and Percelia “Percy” Bulltail. He has many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Howard’s aunts, uncles and their families include Jeanette Adams, George Little Light, Alfretta Fitzpatrick, Leonard Pretty Weasel, Bernice Jefferson, Dorothy Mae Takes Enemy, Esther Pretty Weasel, Freda Froze, Jewell Froze, Betty Froze-LaForge, Janie Teeter, Vera Froze, and Darrell Froze. His extended family includes Pretty Weasel, Shane, Takes Enemy, Jefferson Fitzpatrick, Birdinground, Other Medicine, Doyle, Big Lake, Lincoln, Froze, Dawes, Plenty Hoops, White Fox, Whiteclay, Tobacco, Anderson, Roper, and Stewart. In our time of grief, we apologize if we missed any family members. Our family is large, and we may have unintentionally missed your name.
