Nathan Shike Obituary

Nathan “Toby John” Shike, born September 10, 1973 to Victor Wilson of Wapato, Washington and Diana “Tiny Girl” Medicine Horse of Lodge Grass, Montana.  He was later adopted by his paternal grandmother, Lorraine Shike Lawrence and grew up with her kids as his brothers and sisters.

Toby or Toby John as he was affectionately known, grew up in Goldendale, Washington, where he graduated from High School. He then joined the US Marine Corp. and was honorably discharged a short time later, as he did receive the honor to bear a flag on his casket today.  If only he was able to further his service in the Marines, we could only imagine what a different life he may have had.

Toby had a fighting spirit from a very early age, he wanted to fight for our country, but when he couldn’t, he returned back to the Crow Reservation and joined the search for his mother who went missing in 1981.  He was a member of AIM (American Indian Movement), he had very strong feelings and was very passionate in whatever endeavor he faced.

Toby was a dancer and DJ.  He wanted to be a professional dancer and did travel to California to dance on a couple of occasions.   He traveled back and forth between Washington and Montana.  During one of his visit back to Washington, he was in a car accident and was paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair.  That did not stop Toby from anything.  When he was in high school he exceled in long distance running and wrestling, so when he was confined to the wheel chair he raced in marathons and won many different metals.   He even was a comedian.  He would say he wasn’t a stand up comedian but a sit down comedian, performing in different Billings area venues.  He still wanted to start racing again and wanted to get better so he could start training again. He was very proud to help and work as a firefighter.  He also enjoyed a good game of poker.

Toby is preceded in death by his Maternal Grandparents, Frank Medicine Horse, Jr. and Wanda Doore Medicine Horse.  Paternal Grandmother/Mother Lorraine Shike.  Brothers- John and Fred Lawrence, Sisters Roberta and Rochelle.

Toby is Survived by one son- Jerome (JJ) Little Light, adopted daughter and grandchildren, Bella and Ezra whom were the light of Toby’s world.   His Father and Step mother- Victor and Carrie Wilson of Wapato, Washington.
