Ruth House-Alden, 82, Biawakshe Itchish (Good Spring) a name given to her by her uncle, Comes Up Red, Big Lodge and child of the Whistling Water, also known affectionately known as “Baby Ruth” of Black Lodge District died Saturday, March 24th, 2018 in the Big Horn Memorial Hospital.
She was born April, 24, 1935 at the family home in the black lodge area. She is the daughter of the late Franklin House and Mae FogInTheMorning-House. She was a member of the Pentecostal faith attending service at the Black Lodge Church. She attended Hardin Schools then later attended Busby Boarding School. Ruth worked at the Carpet Mills until it closed down and also a cook for Head Start Program in Crow Agency and St. Xavier. Ruth also was very proud to cook for the Apsaalooke (Crow) Youth Camp. She was mainly a homemaker and seamstress, her hobbies included hand game, dress making and designing Pendleton jackets. She also loved to travel to various places and enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting with her family. She was also a devoted Hardin Bulldog and Skyview Falcon fan.
Ruth married the love of her life, Fredrick Alden Jr in Hardin on Nov. 24, 1949. The couple made their home in the Black Lodge area up the Big Horn valley. She later then moved to the Two Leggins area, where they began their own ranching operation, raising cattle and horses. She was a proud spectator of all cultural events of the Crow Tribe, including handgames, sundance, and arrow throwing were significant events she would always attend.
Her husband Fred Alden Jr, parents Franklin and Mae FogInTheMorning-House; Sons Gary Plenty Buffalo, Fredrick Alden III, Tim Bigman Sr; grandsons Timothy Big Man Jr, Emery Yallup; granddaughter Rory Old Chief; adopted daughter Jacklyn Ware; sister Grace Mae Hummingbird, Franchen House, Irene Reed, Vera Ann Whiteclay, Donna Pretty On Top, Thora Ann House and Rosabell Fighter; Brothers William “Jakie” House, Tommy Medicine Horse, Ertis Ricky Fighter Sr. preceded Ruth in death.
Survivors include sons Patrick (Carol), Leon and Aaron (Martha) Alden; daughters Susan (Aaron) Red Star, Jana and Naveah; children she raised as her own Tanaya, Taylan, Brandon, and Kaylene Alden; as well as Alex Birdinground and Kevin White. Grandchildren Patrick (Staci), Shelly (Sheldon), Leslie, Lisa (Jalen), April, Kristy, Yolanda, Lawrence, Fred IV (Yvonne), Marcel Alden, Rhonda Rides Horse, Rochelle (Garey) White Hip, Carolene (JD) Takes Gun, Michael John (Myrann), Gary (Sharla) Plenty Buffalo, Alex, Tara, Hudson and Kalsei Pretty Paint. Great grandchildren: Mashaya, Terrel, Savaya, Zayden, Tayshaun, Emmy, Irie, Tayeah, Brylie, Tiara, Desmond (Mallory), Ralphael, and Nina, Murrah, Garey Jr, Sheldon, Danielle, DrewAnn, Devonna, Eli, Makalia, Michaelyn, Michaelena, Mya, Mylee, Katanna, Jada, Gary III, Michael John Jr., Regis Jr., Keyona, Arcionna, Kylie, Levi, Zaylee, Teagan, Fredalynn, Freddie Five, Asher, Sharmanda, Toni, Derek, Anfernee, Hillary, Carol, and ReneeMarie. Great great grandchildren Skylar, Amaziah, Saphiria, Jada, Larylynn, Bell, G-Man, Aaleigha, Jordason, Sylas, LaSkya, L-man, Axel, Jacob, Arturo, Leviah, Kariece, LaShay, Miah, Mila, Savaeh, Normanda, Norriah, Norveda, Norman III, Norisa, Normae, DonnaMae, Michelene and Butch. Adopted sons Travis (Tammy) Brien, Alden Big Man Sr., Cedric (Audrey) Black Eagle, Pete (Gayle) Bear Shield, Gale (Mary) Three Irons, Dennis (Loretta) Popsakie. Adopted daughters Trecil Koomsa, Verna (Franklin) Jefferson, Gladys (Woodrow) Brien, Rebecca Anderson, Farrel White Hip, Marie (Buddy) Rogers, Colleen (Marlon) Black Eagle, Ann (Gary) Little Light, Tanisha (Johnson) Pickett, Gloria Noel, Mary Bear Shield and Allen Sutton. Brothers Raymon, Bruce (Agatha) House, Larry (Carol) Old Elk, Norman Pretty On Top Sr., Clifford (Ardith) Birdinground. Sisters Fannie (Kenneth) Plenty, Mary (Edward) Iron and Sarah House; she leaves behind 29 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren and 15 great great grandchildren. Her name sakes Beatrice Ruth Horn, Mikolette Ruth Plenty Buffalo, Ruthie Mae Dust, Emberle Ruth Dawes. Extended families Include House, Comes Up Red, Bad Bear, Rides Bear, Bird Hat, Goes Ahead, DeCrane, Old Crane, FogInTheMorning, Big Medicine, Three Irons, Anderson, Bird Hat, Black Hawk, Goes Ahead, Black Eagle, Stump, Denny, family of Ben and Nancy Jefferson, Top Sky of Rocky Boy, Buffalo, Saddle Backs of Hobbema Alberta, Canada, Weasel Boy, Windy Boy, local descendent of the Crooked Face Child, Hang Up the Meat and Beaver-Muskrat families.

The family would like to mention, Ruth had a special place in her heart for pets, a stuffed animal dog named “Buster” and a dog named “Jack” who she made reference to as “man of the house”.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Thursday in the Crow Agency Spirit of Life Foursquare Church. Interment will follow in the Crow Agency Cemetery. Bullis Mortuary has been entrusted with the arrangements.
